An executive of the oil company Grupo México, identified as René “N”, was shot and killed while driving his white Ford pickup truck at the facilities of Marina Bucaneros Yacht Club in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche. The engineer, who had worked at Grupo México for more than 20 years, was attacked at the club's entrance on Cuatro Carriles Avenue while heading to work.
According to initial reports, the assailant, who acted alone and was riding a motorcycle, fired several times at the passenger side window where the executive was sitting. An unknown individual approached the passenger window and shot at least three times at close range, injuring the engineer in the chest, neck, and face, while his driver escaped unharmed.
A worker from the Marina Bucaneros Yacht Club witnessed the attack, rushed towards the truck, and saw the alleged perpetrator flee at high speed on a motorcycle. Subsequently, he called for help at the emergency number, and paramedics from Civil Protection confirmed that the executive had died.
The Attorney General's Office of the State of Campeche is investigating the case, and no information has been provided regarding the arrest of any person or any line of investigation so far. With this murder, the municipality of Carmen increases its level of violence and insecurity, raising concerns among local business owners.
